An intense film about two conspiracy theorists who kidnap a woman because they believe she is an alien, Bugonia keeps you on the edge of your seat right until the end. It is always intriguing when you see actors and directors continue to work together. It makes you wonder what is happening behind the scenes…
A gorgeous film full of texture, wonder, and depth, Frankenstein, the classic story with a few twists, is truly one that you can’t miss. Frankenstein is one of those characters that has always been in the ether. Being alive today means never having lived in a world without the creator and his monster (as the…
An intense thriller with a gradual build, Enemy, about a teacher who discovers that he has a doppelganger with an entirely different life, leaves a lot of room for interpretation. I am a huge fan of Denis Villeneuve as a director. Incendies and Arrival are two of my absolute favorite films, and, while I couldn’t…
One of the best films ever made for sparking discussion about history and science, The Man From Earth, about a professor claiming to be a non-aging cro-magnon, will have you buzzing with information. When I first watched this film, about three years ago, I had never heard of it before. I knew nothing about it…
A stylized film that ranges from comedy to grotesque, The Substance, about an aging star who wants her youth and adoration back, is a lot of fun and may have you covering your eyes. I have talked many times about my aversion to scary movies, but every once in a while, there’s a crossover that…
A unique sci-fi thriller with some twists that I never saw coming, Companion, about a weekend away with friends that goes awry, kept me constantly wondering what would happen next. As I’ve mentioned before, I don’t do scary movies. I don’t enjoy them and, innately, I stay away from them because the music and images…
An intense thriller about candidates who walk until there is only one winner, The Long Walk is a story of deep-rooted desires, nefarious ideas, and lifelong brotherhood. I really enjoyed this. I have to admit, I have only ever read part of one Stephen King book. I got about 200 pages into The Stand and…
A wonky film that feels like a combination of Men In Black and Everything Everywhere All At Once, John Dies At The End is an interdimensional dark comedy that has two college dropouts fighting to save the world. I have mentioned many times now that I’m not into horror films, but occasionally I’ll try a…
An riveting sci-fi thriller about astronauts trying to save the sun before the extinction of humanity, Sunshine has an incredible ensemble and a tension that never lets go. There are some excellent films out there with wonderful ensembles. The Big Chill and Steel Magnolias are the first two that pop into my head because no…
A sweet little film about an inventor who creates a robot in a small town in Wales, Brian and Charles is a bit uneven, but very heartwarming. I don’t always jive with British humor. It can be really hit or miss for me. There are movies that I love like About A Boy and Kinky…
An unusual drama about the process of selecting souls for life before birth, Nine Days will have you thinking twice about everything you thought you believed. I love a small film with depth. If you’re thinking outside of the box, that is my kind of movie. I want to wonder and ponder on it long…
A conceptually unique drama about a company who will help you end your life to move into a different plane of existence and interact with the living, Next Exit will have you thinking about life and what might come next long after the credits roll. Countless films have been made on the subject of death…
