Top 10 Of 100 Film List #2 (2024)

This is a list of the top 10 from the second 100 “new to me” films that I watched in 2024. You can find other top 10 lists here. There are lots of excellent movies out there, but these were my favorites from this batch.

Run Lola Run Movie PosterMovies move around from platform to platform constantly, but if something seems to have stuck around a platform for awhile, I will link it here. Please let me know if it’s not there anymore!

*Note – I never watch horror movies on purpose, so if you watch any of these, you can be sure that they aren’t that genre.

In no particular order:

1. Incendies (2010) – One of the best films I’ve ever seen, hands down. The story of adult twins who go on a quest to reveal who their mother really was after her death. It is a French film, but do not let the subtitles stop you from this brilliant piece. After you watch it, let me know because I want to hear your thoughts. (Currently available on Tubi or to rent on Prime)

2. Monkey Man (2024) – John Wick meets Slumdog Millionaire, and not because it was directed by, written by, and stars Dev Patel. A breathtakingly visual and ultra-violent film about a man seeking revenge while scraping through the darkest parts of humanity. (Currently free on Prime)

3. The New World (2005) – A beautifully ethereal film about Pocahontas, John Smith, and John Rolfe. I challenge you not to fall in love with the actress who plays Pocahontas, as I don’t see how it’s possible. Look past any historical inaccuracies and just enjoy the uniqueness of this movie. (Currently available to rent on Prime)

4. Son of Rambow (2007) – An endearing movie about a “bad boy” and a “good boy” who come together over their passion for Rambo and filmmaking. Sweet and touching, it’ll remind you how challenging and wonderful adolescence can be. (Currently available on PlutoTV or to rent on Prime)

5. Pride (2014) – Based on a true story, this charming film follows a group of gay and lesbian activists who are looking to support British miners on strike in 1984. During a time of great financial turmoil, the AIDS epidemic, and questionable acceptance, this captivating comedy, starring Imelda Staunton, Bill Nighy, and more, hits just the right notes. (Currently available on PlutoTV or to rent on Prime)

6. Run Lola Run (1998) – A punk rock German action film about a young woman who needs to come up with some money to save the life of her boyfriend in only 20 minutes. Evaluating different choices, this nonstop film packs a lot of entertainment into its short 80-minute runtime. (Currently to rent on Prime)

7. Limbo (2020) – A small and quirky comedy about a Syrian refugee and others living in a refugee house in a small Scottish town. Funny and heartbreaking, this is a different view of how you may perceive a refugee experience. (Currently free on Peacock or to rent on Prime)

8. The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017) – A dark, disturbing, and twisted film about the relationship between a heart surgeon, his family, and a young man that he has befriended. Not for the faint of heart, this movie brings anxiety and chaos to new heights. You will end the movie with a, “What did I just watch?” look on your face, but you won’t be able to stop thinking about it. (Currently available free on Max or to rent on Prime) *This film is highly psychologically creepy, but not in a scary music/jump scare way.*

9. Other People (2016) – A slice-of-life dramedy about a man who has recently broken up with his boyfriend and moves home to help his dying mother. Despite issues with his father, his sisters, and his future, he continues to claim that he is just fine. Jessie Plemons and Molly Shannon at their best. (Currently free on Peacock or to rent on Prime)

10. Triangle of Sadness (2022) – A bizarre and hilarious commentary that is ultimately about the class system, this film is not what you think it is going in. It’s a weird ride, but a fun one nonetheless. Woody Harrelson makes an appearance. That’s all you need to know. (Currently free on Hulu or to rent on Prime)
