A wild and hilarious comedy thriller, Cocaine Bear, about a bear that starts attacking people after coming across the discarded drug, is most shockingly based on real events. When I first heard about this movie, I had a very similar reaction to most people. “Um, what??” I wasn’t interested in seeing it at the time,…
A stylized film that ranges from comedy to grotesque, The Substance, about an aging star who wants her youth and adoration back, is a lot of fun and may have you covering your eyes. I have talked many times about my aversion to scary movies, but every once in a while, there’s a crossover that…
Based on a true story, Memories Of Murder, about a serial killer that struck a small town and the detectives who investigate, is a fantastic and intense thriller. It was only about five years ago that I developed a deep love of foreign films. I wasn’t raised watching anything that wasn’t in English and I…
A thriller with potential that devolves into confusion, Some Other Woman, about a woman, her husband, and her stalker, starts pretty well, but loses its way. I love a good thriller. It is so much fun when a movie can pull the wool over your eyes and only reveal bits of information until they are…
A unique sci-fi thriller with some twists that I never saw coming, Companion, about a weekend away with friends that goes awry, kept me constantly wondering what would happen next. As I’ve mentioned before, I don’t do scary movies. I don’t enjoy them and, innately, I stay away from them because the music and images…
A hysterical sequel, 22 Jump Street brings back the clueless adult cops, but this time sends them to college where frat parties, football games, and open mic nights are the way of life. I’ll admit, I didn’t think that I’d be watching two 21 Jump Street films in the same week. I had never really…
A comedy thriller about a man who doesn’t experience pain trying to save the girl he loves from kidnappers, Novocaine is an uneven film with some hilarious moments. There are some movies and television episodes that stick with you long after you’ve watched them. In one early episode of Grey’s Anatomy, Abigail Breslin played a…
A buddy comedy that sends two undercover cops back to high school to break up a drug ring, 21 Jump Street is a very funny film with a great cast. When the television show 21 Jump Street first hit the airwaves in 1987, it was all the rage. I am old enough to remember watching…
Realistic and captivating, All The President’s Men covers a literal hunt for the truth after five men are arrested for breaking into the Watergate complex during the Nixon era. I watched the movie Nixon recently, and I really enjoyed it, but when I was finished, I still had questions about the specifics of the Watergate…
Based on a true story about a bus driver and a teacher who saved 22 students from horrendous wildfires, The Lost Bus builds a lot of tension, but runs way too long. I love a good survival story. I enjoy the real ones, like The Lost Children, and the fictional ones, like The Long Walk….
A short and well-paced crime noir about a racetrack heist, The Killing is a Stanley Kubrick film you may never have known existed. I sure didn’t. I have watched a handful of Stanley Kubrick films, but when I added this movie to my watchlist, I had no idea that he had directed it. The Shining,…
A wild film about a group of revolutionaries and the military man who comes hunting for them 16 years later, One Battle After Another sports an excellent cast and some gorgeous cinematography. A film with a great cast is enough to entice anyone to see a movie. Filmmakers know it, actors know it, and audiences…
