The Wrong Paris Movie Review (2025)

A light romcom that is combination The Bachelor and Hallmark movie, The Wrong Paris, about a girl hoping to go to art school who ends up on a reality dating show, is decent afternoon entertainment.

The Wrong Paris Movie Review and Poster 2025The first time I was introduced to Miranda Cosgrove was in School Of Rock. That has since become a favorite movie for my family and we watch it about once per year. I know that she is a grown woman now, but it took a movie like this one to remind me that even little Summer had to grow up sometime.

The Wrong Paris is about Dawn, a small-town girl who just got accepted to art school in Paris, France. It is her dream to get out of Texas and experience more of the world. Without enough money to cover the costs of art school, Dawn auditions for a reality show that will take her to Paris for free. When she meets the southern hunk, Trey, and gets accepted into the cast, her dreams are on the verge of being crushed when they fly the women to Paris, Texas.

This is the kind of romcom that builds over the course of the film. The first half is extremely paint-by-numbers, as Dawn has big dreams, has a meet cute with a guy at a bar, ends up in a circumstance she doesn’t expect, and then sees him again. There are some amusing moments, but no depth, and you really don’t care about the characters.

Somewhere in the second half of the film, that changes just a bit. You get to know both Dawn and Trey on a slightly deeper level and learn more about their backstories. And somewhere in there, I was surprised to realize that I wanted them to be together.

One of the things that this film has going for it is its insights into how reality shows work. There are the stereotypical cast members (the sexy influencer, the beauty queen, the sweet girl, the one who wants to get pregnant soon, and the tough assertive woman), interviews where everyone (except Dawn) claims that Trey is their soulmate, and a commentary about how nobody actually eats on reality shows. There are competitions that win a woman a private date with Trey and “spur ceremonies,” where if you don’t receive a golden spur, you go home. If you know, you know.

Miranda Cosgrove and Pierson Fode are good as Dawn and Trey. They have some chemistry and do their jobs, plus, they are both beautiful people, so they’re not hard to look at. I couldn’t get over how much Fode sounds like Matthew McConaughey, though, in cadence, tone, and pitch. It is remarkable.

With a hint of a twist at the end followed by 5 minutes of bloopers, The Wrong Paris isn’t anything to write home about, but it is cute enough. It’s the perfect movie to throw on when you need something simple, romantic, and amusing.
