A gritty and wild thriller with a hint of comedy, Love Lies Bleeding is about a female bodybuilder and the woman who loves her, who affect each other’s worlds in unforeseeable ways. There are some movies that you have to marinate on after you’ve watched them. While the movie was on, there was so much…
An unusual drama about the process of selecting souls for life before birth, Nine Days will have you thinking twice about everything you thought you believed. I love a small film with depth. If you’re thinking outside of the box, that is my kind of movie. I want to wonder and ponder on it long…
Told in two parts, Black Bear, which focuses on a writer who is writing a screenplay, will have you dissecting what actually happened after the last frame. Conversations about movies that people love never get boring for me. I really enjoy hearing someone’s perspective on a film, even if it’s one that I couldn’t get…
A conceptually unique drama about a company who will help you end your life to move into a different plane of existence and interact with the living, Next Exit will have you thinking about life and what might come next long after the credits roll. Countless films have been made on the subject of death…
A film about one man’s quest to turn a laundromat into a success, My Beautiful Laundrette explores racial themes and sexuality with a deep undercurrent and a light exterior. I am on a quest to watch every single movie that Daniel Day-Lewis has been in. He has performed in less than 30 and I have…
A film that didn’t get a great reception when it was first released, Birth, about a woman who lost her husband 10 years ago and is approached by a child claiming to be him, deserves another look. Some movies are made before their time. Twenty or thirty years after they’re created, they sometimes find new…
A film about machines arriving on earth to attack the world, War Of The Worlds 2025 is so incredibly bad that it’s literally laughable. I will admit, I gave into peer pressure here. I keep hearing rumblings about how bad this movie is, so I had to see for myself. Well, I’m here to tell…
A solid thriller about political activists and conspiracy theories within the British government in Ireland, Hidden Agenda allows both Brian Cox and Frances McDormand to shine. I’ll admit that there are movies where I get a little lost in the intricacies. This typically happens to me when governments and the military in other countries are…
A film where the lie from a child could ruin the lives of the two women who manage her boarding school, The Children’s Hour is an emotional ride that I didn’t expect. I am always here for it when a movie builds. When you start with some introductions, some exposition, and, at some point, you…
A slow building sports movie that ultimately explodes, The Novice is an intense pressure cooker that only gets better the longer you watch. You’ve never seen a movie about rowing quite like this before. There are some excellent sports films out there and some that are less than fantastic (I’m looking at you, Vision Quest)….
A dynamic superhero movie, The Fantastic Four: First Steps is like The Jetsons meets comic books, even if the CGI baby misses the mark. I have never watched a Fantastic Four movie before. They were never really on my radar, and since my son is an encyclopedia of comics and lore, I never felt like…
If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to drop acid, The Trip is the movie you’ve been wanting to see. With almost no story or character development, it’s a singular trippy experience. Some older movies are amazing. 12 Angry Men, Inherit The Wind, and Sunset Boulevard are films that everyone should watch because…
