An endearing romantic comedy about three sisters and their Master Chef father, Eat Drink Man Woman has a whole lot of heart and even more amazing food. I have heard mumblings about this film forever. I have been looking for it for years, but it doesn’t seem to be available to stream in the United…
Full of fantastic music and tons of heart, Tick, Tick… Boom! is a film based on a musical about a composer who is desperately trying to finish his show while navigating his upcoming 30th birthday. I remember when Jonathan Larson passed away. For all of us theatre nerds out there, it is a story that…
A beautiful and complicated fairytale of a film, The Fisher King is about two struggling NYC strangers who have been broken by the same event, as one asks the other for help finding the holy grail. There are some movies that just stick with you. They are so beautiful or so funny or so touching…
A conceptually unique drama about a company who will help you end your life to move into a different plane of existence and interact with the living, Next Exit will have you thinking about life and what might come next long after the credits roll. Countless films have been made on the subject of death…
A film about one man’s quest to turn a laundromat into a success, My Beautiful Laundrette explores racial themes and sexuality with a deep undercurrent and a light exterior. I am on a quest to watch every single movie that Daniel Day-Lewis has been in. He has performed in less than 30 and I have…
No one leaves this place without singing the blues. And after watching this stellar film, you won’t be able to stop singing whether you like it or not. There are some movies that were watched during childhood that stand the test of time. Some really don’t, but I couldn’t wait to show my kids this…
A dynamic superhero movie, The Fantastic Four: First Steps is like The Jetsons meets comic books, even if the CGI baby misses the mark. I have never watched a Fantastic Four movie before. They were never really on my radar, and since my son is an encyclopedia of comics and lore, I never felt like…
A silly and zany comedy full of gags, The Naked Gun 2025 is a light and funny film that shows off Liam Neeson’s slapstick chops. I remember watching the first The Naked Gun movie when it came out in 1988 starring Leslie Neilson. I was in 7th grade and I went to see it on…
A remarkable and captivating film that is just as relevant now as it was in its time, Inherit The Wind is based on the real court trial of a man teaching Darwinism in the 1920s. I’m embarrassed to say that I’d never heard of Inherit The Wind until recently. I was watching a television show…
A film with a very funny first half and an uneven second half, Oh, Hi! is a cute romcom for a rainy day. As I always say, I love a good indie film. It’s a great way to meet actors that you’ve never met before or run into indie darlings that you haven’t seen in…
A story about young love, Summer of 85 is about a teenager who is fascinated with death, but finds someone who might just be the spellbinding distraction that he needs. First loves are usually nostalgic. We glamourize them and think of them wistfully as beautiful moments from long ago. But if you could relive them…
An intimate and sharply funny black comedy, Sorry, Baby is a compelling story about drive, friendship, and looking for the ground under your feet in the hardest of moments. We need more stories about modern friendships. I can think of a few off the top of my head (like Friendship and The Room Next Door)…
