A small story about one night when four friends have to manage their dead friend’s body, The Trouble With Jessica never figures out what it wants to be. The jazzy score is nice, though. I remember watching the trailer for this film in the movie theater earlier this year. It stuck out to me because…
A modern and whimsical tale, Problemista is about an El Salvadorian man trying to live the American dream as a toy maker while navigating employment and immigration issues. Any time that you see that Tilda Swinton is going to be in a movie, you can be sure that it’ll have some flair. One of the…
Chock full of incredible music and dancing, A Chorus Line, about performers auditioning for a Broadway show, is a treat for the eyes and ears – if you can separate it from the stage musical. There are some movies that are a piece of you. I grew up with A Chorus Line, fell in love…
A light romcom that is combination The Bachelor and Hallmark movie, The Wrong Paris, about a girl hoping to go to art school who ends up on a reality dating show, is decent afternoon entertainment. The first time I was introduced to Miranda Cosgrove was in School Of Rock. That has since become a favorite…
A cute sequel with a number of laugh-out-loud moments, Freakier Friday multiplies the body switching while maintaining the same campy tone of the original film. I have watched the first Freaky Friday movie a few times with my children. When I say “the first,” I mean the version with Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis….
A wonky film that feels like a combination of Men In Black and Everything Everywhere All At Once, John Dies At The End is an interdimensional dark comedy that has two college dropouts fighting to save the world. I have mentioned many times now that I’m not into horror films, but occasionally I’ll try a…
A fresh revamp of the 1980s story, The Roses is a black comedy about a married couple who love each other, hate each other, and try to destroy each other, sometimes on the same day. I remember watching The War Of The Roses in the movie theater when it first came out. Starring Kathleen Turner…
A charming film about a bigtime screenwriter who returns to a small town after losing his memory, The Majestic really does have a little magic sprinkled in. I happen to love when famous comedic actors play serious roles. It shows their talent in a different range and you learn to love them in a new…
A hysterical mockumentary about everything from religion to DNA, Cunk On Life is full of hilarious observations along with overqualified and baffled scholars. I love a good mockumentary. Between shows like Abbott Elementary and Jury Duty plus This Is Spinal Tap and Theater Camp, I am a huge fan of the format. It’s fun to…
A fun little murder mystery film with personality, The Thursday Murder Club is packed with amazing actors and a whimsical tone. Netflix films can be a little bit hit or miss these days. It feels as if they are sometimes more interested in pumping out products, regardless of quality, just to have something new on…
A heartwarming and funny film about a crotchety older man and the boy that he babysits, St. Vincent is odd and endearing in all the right ways. St. Vincent is one of those films that I find myself going back to every couple of years. I love it and I would watch it more often,…
A sweet little film about an inventor who creates a robot in a small town in Wales, Brian and Charles is a bit uneven, but very heartwarming. I don’t always jive with British humor. It can be really hit or miss for me. There are movies that I love like About A Boy and Kinky…
