Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die Movie Review (2025)
A time-travel comedy about an ordinary man trying to prevent a disastrous future, Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die is funny, unpredictable, and refreshingly creative, revealing its story through cleverly interwoven past and present timelines.
One of the most entertaining thematic choices for a movie is time travel. No one knows exactly what it should look like (although lots of people believe they do), and it’s always just a little bit different. When you compare the Back To The Future series with Hot Tub Time Machine or The Time Traveler’s Wife, you find that you have three completely unique concepts. So knowing this was a new time travel movie, I was incredibly curious.
Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die is about a man from the future who arrives at a diner. Looking around at all of the people there, he explains that he knows them all, he’s been here before, and he is trying to figure out the perfect combination of these people to add to his team in order to save the world. He has yet to figure it out, but he’s here to try again. Choosing a handful of semi-unconvinced people, along with someone he’s never chosen before, he’s hoping this time will be the one.
This movie is like a breath of fresh air in terms of creativity and intelligent storytelling. It is a lot of fun, incredibly quirky, and committed to the bit. At the same time, the story is topically relevant and full of surprises.
Designed such that you spend some time in the present and then get a backstory for several members of the group, the film unfolds gradually, but in a very powerful way. The relevance of the histories is unpredictable and, as things come into focus, you realize how clever the narrative is.
I have been a huge fan of Sam Rockwell for years, and he is the perfect actor to lead the pack as the wild and nameless Man From The Future. Along with Zazie Beetz, Juno Temple, Haley Lu Richardson, and Michael Peña, you’ve got a charming group of people who you genuinely enjoy watching.
Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die is not a movie you want to know anything about before going into it, so I highly recommend choosing it for a movie night and just hitting play. It is a hint longer than necessary, but I really enjoyed watching it, and I’ll be thinking about it for a long time. It is messy, imaginative, playful, and absolutely original, so give it a shot and see what you think. It is not what I expected it to be.
