Based on a true story about a bus driver and a teacher who saved 22 students from horrendous wildfires, The Lost Bus builds a lot of tension, but runs way too long. I love a good survival story. I enjoy the real ones, like The Lost Children, and the fictional ones, like The Long Walk….
A short and well-paced crime noir about a racetrack heist, The Killing is a Stanley Kubrick film you may never have known existed. I sure didn’t. I have watched a handful of Stanley Kubrick films, but when I added this movie to my watchlist, I had no idea that he had directed it. The Shining,…
A wild film about a group of revolutionaries and the military man who comes hunting for them 16 years later, One Battle After Another sports an excellent cast and some gorgeous cinematography. A film with a great cast is enough to entice anyone to see a movie. Filmmakers know it, actors know it, and audiences…
With a lovely muted color palette and an absorbing story, The King is a more modern retelling of Henry V from a collection of Shakespeare’s historical plays. When I was in college, my theater department did a production of Richard III. I enjoy Shakespeare, but I couldn’t get into this play. It was at that…
A rough thriller about a kidnapped and drugged woman that has no palpable tension, Don’t Move wastes the potential that it had. Remember last week when I was saying that Netflix pumps out movies? Some are better than others and you can never be quite sure until you get into them how it’s going to…
An intense thriller about candidates who walk until there is only one winner, The Long Walk is a story of deep-rooted desires, nefarious ideas, and lifelong brotherhood. I really enjoyed this. I have to admit, I have only ever read part of one Stephen King book. I got about 200 pages into The Stand and…
A wonky film that feels like a combination of Men In Black and Everything Everywhere All At Once, John Dies At The End is an interdimensional dark comedy that has two college dropouts fighting to save the world. I have mentioned many times now that I’m not into horror films, but occasionally I’ll try a…
An riveting sci-fi thriller about astronauts trying to save the sun before the extinction of humanity, Sunshine has an incredible ensemble and a tension that never lets go. There are some excellent films out there with wonderful ensembles. The Big Chill and Steel Magnolias are the first two that pop into my head because no…
John Wick in Korean, but 4 years before John Wick ever came out? I am SO here for The Man From Nowhere and it is FANTASTIC! I’ll admit that, as usual, I went into this movie completely blind. I had added it to my list long ago and clicked play without reading anything further. Honestly,…
With a focus on audio just as much as visual, Blow Out is a spectacular film about a sound engineer who accidentally witnesses and records a murder. A work way ahead of its time. I have to admit that when I see that John Travolta is in a film, a little voice inside me says,…
A gritty and wild thriller with a hint of comedy, Love Lies Bleeding is about a female bodybuilder and the woman who loves her, who affect each other’s worlds in unforeseeable ways. There are some movies that you have to marinate on after you’ve watched them. While the movie was on, there was so much…
A film about machines arriving on earth to attack the world, War Of The Worlds 2025 is so incredibly bad that it’s literally laughable. I will admit, I gave into peer pressure here. I keep hearing rumblings about how bad this movie is, so I had to see for myself. Well, I’m here to tell…
