Bob Trevino Likes It Movie Review (2025)

Some movies are just special. It’s not about the cinematography or the landscapes or the sets, it’s about the magic. And Bob Trevino Likes It has that in spades.

Bob Trevino Likes It Movie Review and Poster 2025I tend to be drawn to smaller movies. These are often indie films that focus on human connection rather than explosions or space. I like being injected into the little moments between people, where someone learns more about who they are, their history, or some other human experience that most of us can relate to.

Bob Trevino Likes It is a film about Lily Trevino, a young woman whose only life connections are her awful father (Bob Trevino) and the woman she works for as a home health aide. When she and her father have a falling-out, Lily searches on Facebook to try to find him. Unknowingly “friending” an account for another Bob Trevino, she and new-Bob become friends and begin to show each other that there are ways to move out of the loneliness that they each experience.

This is a fantastic film. I am not exaggerating when I tell you that I cried or teared up no less than 5 times. I lost count because I was so engaged in the story, but I definitely (embarrassingly) ugly-cried near the end. And to make things even better, this is based on a true story.

This story is about two broken people who help each other in ways that they likely could never have found otherwise. Lily and new-Bob are both sad and well-meaning people who are trying to do the right things. But our baggage can be incredibly heavy, so sometimes it takes a bit of eye-opening to understand that you can unpack a few shirts and leave them by the side of the road. You don’t need them, they aren’t yours. Make that baggage weigh a little less.

John Leguizamo and Barbie Ferreira are incredible as new-Bob and Lily. They have a charming chemistry that hinges only on pure intentions and goodness. Rachel Bay Jones also plays a pivotal supporting role, and I love seeing her in anything since she played Evan Hanson’s mom on Broadway. I can’t help it, I’m a theatre nerd at heart.

Bob Trevino Likes It touched my heart. It had me speaking out loud under my breath in the (almost empty) theater, nodding my head like a sports coach on the sidelines, and constantly wiping away tears that were either pouring or leaking out.

This is one of those movies that I can’t break down into costumes or lighting, though. It transcended that for me. It’s simply beautiful and you should see it. The end.
